My Taxes Pay For Bombs Striking Palestine — A Poem

I am paying tax money
to the city, to the government,
being used to the building of bombs
hitting bodies, innocent civilians
who are perishing in the thousands
in Palestine.

Money I have earned is turned
Into death-seeking missiles
from the almighty US, ripping flesh,
turning Gaza into a mess, into a
graveyard, shards hitting babies,
women, guiltless men. Who can defend
against the bombs, the bangs,
the booms?

I want to keep my money in my
pocket. I want the US to stop it.
I want people to live, I want
Palestinians to breathe. I want
us to believe we can live in peace,
I want us all to believe we can live
in peace.

Deceased are people who have
nothing to do with the strikes,
the strong-arming, the spiritual
warfare being declared by the
dominant who want death and
destruction to be prominent.

I did not ask for those bombs
to hit Palestine. I did not okay
my hard-earned money to help
turn the Gaza strip into a battlefield
where violence and victim-hood
do not yield.

This is an appeal to every mayor
and governor who would rather send
a bomb instead of a prayer for peace
to the Middle East. Your hands have
blood on them, so does those
US dollars you collect from us to
cause harm, chaos, loss.

If I could, I would deny you all
of the funding you request for
a people’s a group’s death. Eventually,
all will be left of a land of a forgotten,
downtrodden people is nothing. No children,
no homes, no buildings, no belief in people.

The evil you’re using to create war
has been heard time and time again.
The evil you’re using to “protect Israel”
is not enough to purposefully kill.
The evil you’re using needs to come
to an end.

I want all of my dollars back. I want
you to send me checks, returns,
because it hurts to see Palestine
burn.
